About Us

Milltown Clonskeagh Credit Union has been operating in the community since 1967 (the Credit Union movement was introduced to Ireland in 1958) and from there has grown to become an iconic institute that has helped generations of families with safe, secure savings and low cost loans. We are here to promote the financial well being of its members, create a source of credit for our members and assist the members to make effective use of their financial resources. It is run by its members, for its members whom have a common connection known as the common bond. We exist to serve only its members needs, any surplus income generated is returned back to the members through a dividend, paid usually every year and/or is used to improve the credit union services for its members.

Milltown Clonskeagh Credit Union has over two and half thousand members, which is constantly increasing, and it is through these members savings can contribute to the loan fund, so your savings are helping other members. This is the heart of the ‘community spirit’ of the credit union. We are very active in promoting local community groups and local charities through sponsorship that we regularly contribute to. This again gives back to the community.

The structure of the credit union is run with the express interests of the members through the board of directors, managers and members of staff. A number of committees, such as Credit Committee, Supervisory Committee, Nomination Committee and Membership Committee help ensure that we run it to the best benefit of our members.

The Credit Union movement was introduced into Ireland in 1958 by Nora Herilhy with the support of a number of other dedicated pioneers. Since then, the Credit Union philosophy of mutual self-help has proved very popular, and there are now over 530 Credit Unions affiliated to the Irish league of Credit Unions throughout the country. In Ireland over two million members have recognized the value of credit unions, and have savings approaching several billion euros with their credit unions. There are thousands employed in the sector and many more thousands are volunteers involved in the movement.

The recent announcement relating to Newbridge Credit Union has no bearing on the performance of our credit union. Every credit union is financially independent of any other credit union. Milltown Clonskeagh Credit Union has sound finances, and YOUR MONEY IS SAFE IN OUR HANDS.

We have a professional team managing your credit union and our staff are on hand to assist with any questions that you may have at this time.Milltown Clonskeagh Credit Union remains a strong financial co-operative which continues to offer a secure place for your savings and access to modest loans. We will continue to operate in a co-operative manner in the best interests of all members.
Milltown Clonskeagh Credit Union is well positioned to continue to provide for member saving and loan requirements in a safe and secure manner and some key points to remember are;

  • Members’ savings remain safe and are protected under the Governments Deposit Guarantee Scheme of up to €100,000 per depositor.
  • Our number one priority at all times is to serve the best interests of our members and this will be reflected in all decisions taken by this credit union, in the past, now and into the future.
  • The movement as a whole will continue to make prudent and responsible decisions on behalf of their members and we will continue to prioritise provisioning and reserves to protect their interests.
Credit Unions are a huge asset to the country - they grew out of the banking instability of the 1950’s and are needed now as they were then.
  • Credit Unions have a rich history in local areas and exist only to serve local customers and not to profit
    from their needs.
  • Despite enormous change in addition to new and increased regulatory considerations, credit unions remain vital and accessible providers of essential financial services across the country.
  • We are currently working to ensure a strong, viable and competitive credit union alternative to the remaining commercial banks in Ireland.
  • Credit Unions will still continue to be owned by their members and run by their Boards.
  • Credit Union services and attitude to our members will never change.

We do things differently.
We are not banks.
We are not-for-profit financial co-operatives.

We provide a safe environment for your savings and offer loans to creditworthy members. The ethos remains the same today as when credit unions were established in Ireland over 50 years ago. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to call into the office, phone or drop us an email and we will gladly help you.
